Development is entering its busiest phase as scenery object placement has just begun in earnest. Track laying for the entire route is complete, the terrain has been extracted, markers are in place and a good selection of objects are ready for the route builders to work with.
Currently the priority for the artists is to create the more bespoke assets which will give the route a unique feel while the route builders focus on area coverage. Once the rolling stock has been finalised then scenario creation can begin shortly after.
It is quite a lengthy route and as you drive along the scenery changes quite dramatically. At the Shelby end there is farmland and open plains which transitions into rocky mountain scenery through narrow canyons, vast pine forests which follow the Flathead River and back to farmland at Whitefish and the urban areas around Kalispell.
However, what frames the entire route are the Rocky Mountain ranges in the middle which in reality can be seen for the majority of the route. To achieve this we are using low-poly terrain data drawn in the distance which renders the terrain much further than previous routes.
